What is this program about?

Answer: This is a 6 month program supported by IMDA to collect information by the IMconnnected App, from Sept 2022 to Mar 2023. Consulting Group-Asia Insight Pte Ltd has been appointed as the program manager.

 

What does the IMconnected app do?

Answer: IMconnected is a mobile application that utilises voluntary crowdsourcing to improve the quality of experience for mobile broadband users. IMconnected gathers usage experience from users’ mobile phones, such as broadband speed, latency and coverage on mobile cellular networks such as 3G, 4G,5G as well as on Wi-Fi networks. This allows IMDA to have a better understanding of mobile broadband performance and provides information on consumers’ usage experience.

Is my data secure?

Answer: The IMconnected app only captures network data, such as broadband speed, latency and network coverage. It does not collect nor transmit personal data like phone contacts, photos and media/files, Internet browsing history, and call contents. Bound by global market research code of conduct, no personally identifiable data is provided to IMDA and any data analysis is conducted at an aggregate level (e.g., all Singtel customers data)

 

How long do I have to keep the IMconnected app installed on my mobile phone for this research study?

Answer: You have to keep it for 6 months from 26 Sept 2022 to end of March 2023.

 

If I use several mobile phones or have several lines, can I sign up for this research study using multiple mobile numbers?

Answer: No, you can only sign up once with the main handphone that you most frequently use. Multiple applications are strictly not allowed and anyone who does so is liable to be removed from the program, without being paid.

 

If I am going on holidays overseas, can I still submit my survey response while overseas?

Answer: No, you should only submit your survey response when you are in Singapore. If you are going overseas, you can submit the survey before you travel or when you are back in Singapore.

 

Do I have to keep the location setting of my phone on all the time?

Answer:

For Andriod:

1. Go to “Settings”, first go to “Location”, the setting for “Location” must be “ON”
2. Go to “Applications”, select “IMconnected”
3. Select “Permissions” then “Locations”
4. Select “Allow all the time” then select “Precise or fine locations”. Please do not use “Coarse Settings”

For iOS:

1. Go to “Settings”
2. Scroll down all the way until you see the “IMconnected” app
3. Select “IMconnected” then “Location”
4. Select “Always” then turn on “Precise Location”. Please do not use “Coarse Settings”

What happens if I lose my phone or change to a new mobile phone?

Answer: You should download the IMconnected app on your new phone as soon as possible, and WhatsApp the program manager your new Device ID.

 

What happens if I change my telco service provider?

Answer: You should WhatsApp the program manager about your new telco service provider. If the quota for your new telco is still open, we will transfer your data submissions to the new telco. If the quotas are closed, we may have to stop your participation in the panel.

 

How do I know if I am currently using a 5G network?

1. If your data is enabled, the top right hand corner of your phone display should display a 5G symbol

2. If you are under Singtel, within your MySingtel mobile app, click the 3 dots beside your mobile number on the homescreen, then select “Plan and contract details”. If using a 5G enabled network, it should be displayed under “My add-ons”

3. If you are under M1, within your My M1 mobile app, click the “Usage” tab at the bottom of your screen, select “Local data”, it should be displayed in the resulting page

4. If you are under StarHub, log in to your My StarHub app on your mobile phone. Select “Bills” and your bill should display your 5G enabled mobile plan details

 

How do I know if I am currently using a 5G compatible mobile device?

1. If you are an iOS user, go to “Settings”, select “Mobile Data”, select “Mobile Data Options”, select “Voice & Data”

– if you have a 5G enabled device, there will be a “5G” option listed here

2. If you are an Android user, go to “Settings”, select “SIM card & Mobile data”, select the SIM card you are currently using for the study, under the selected SIM card’s SIM Info & Settings, select “Preferred network type”
